Bringing a Fantastical Night Garden Wallpaper Design to Life for Buying Blind Australia

In 2018, Mereton Textiles was thrilled to be part of a truly one-of-a-kind project for Channel Nine’s Buying Blind Australia.

The brief came from interior designer Shaynna Blaze, who was on a mission to create a deeply personal home office for Mags and Tyson — a couple whose love for books, whimsy, and dramatic storytelling deserved to be woven into the very fabric (or in this case, wallpaper) of their home.

The Inspiration

As part of the show’s process, Shaynna asked Mags and Tyson to share letters about who they were and what they loved. Mags wrote about her passion for reading — from childhood memories of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to a lifelong love of Agatha Christie’s mysteries, Tim Burton’s quirky characters, and Roald Dahl’s fantastical worlds. This insight became the creative spark for what Shaynna would later call her “statement piece”: a completely custom wallpaper for their home office.

The Design

To bring the vision to life, Shaynna commissioned Australian illustrator Annie Davidson, known for her intricate, storytelling-driven artwork. The resulting design was a fantastical night garden, rich with hidden details and whimsical characters. Look closely and you’ll spot Edward Scissorhands at work on a hedge, James alongside his giant peach, and other subtle nods to Mags’ favourite stories.

From Artwork to Wallpaper

That’s where Mereton Textiles came in. Our team transformed Annie’s intricate illustration into high-quality custom printed wallpaper, ensuring every brushstroke, shadow, and hidden creature was captured in stunning detail. Using our advanced printing process, we matched colours faithfully and produced the wallpaper on a durable, smooth substrate suitable for a home office setting.

The Impact

When the space was revealed, it was more than just a home office — it was a deeply personal sanctuary. Surrounded by visual nods to the stories she loved most, Mags had a daily reminder of her passions and personality. It’s a perfect example of how custom printed wallpaper can do more than decorate a wall — it can tell a story, create a connection, and make a house truly feel like home.

“Putting personality into a space isn’t just about things,” says Shaynna. “It’s about creating memories.”

At Mereton, we couldn’t agree more.
